Cybeat — Startup Idea

Music is an important part of everyday life for most people. It affects both our psychology and our emotions, which is why we often associate music and certain songs with certain situations, events, and people. We all have favorite artists that we listen to regularly because we like their repertoire and music. However, we often find ourselves wanting to discover new artists or bands with a corresponding repertoire. This is not always possible through the algorithms of existing platforms and applications.

Cybeat is a website and an app focused on personalizing, with programmed questions and filters, music for its users according to their taste. Our basic idea was to find a way to better promote the musicians’ work through an innovative and original way and make the listeners play a more active role in their search for new music. So, what does Cybeat really do? Cybeat offers the user the most suitable artists that match the customer’s personality and taste, promotes upcoming musicians through the user’s searches and finally having answered the questions and filters, on the results section the user will be able to listen to a sample or be redirected to the artist’s website.

The uniqueness of the idea is what makes it even more intriguing. It appeals to those who care for quality music and wish to experiment as well, by filling their music palette with new additions. That was the idea that started it all. Where the algorithm fails, we come to the rescue, providing a helping hand to the user, and assisting him to find the best suitable artists. So how does it work exactly? The process is very simple, yet very effective: The user will log to our platform or download our app and the only thing left to do is answer some questions and select a few filters. Then he is all set and ready to have a listen to the new artists that we will have recommended through our developed search engine.

Competitors

Our main competitor that may offer similar service seems to be Musical Universe. It is a platform that acts like a psychometric test aiming to find the users traits. Here lies the difference; It finds the users traits not his general taste (with a price of $25) and it does not recommend new artists. Two other apps that may be categorized in the general area of music are Jambro and Bandfriend. Though they both provide a great service to upcoming musicians, they seem to bear no resemblance to our main idea and therefore we mention them as a part of our holistic research. That leaves Cybeat untouched by enemy threats and ready to thrive in its field.

We also created a business model canvas where we analyze the basic strategic movements of our platform such as the partners we are seeking for, our relationship with the customers, the channels that will be used and also the basic actions of Cybeat as well as the sources of income, the majority of which will come by ads that will be included on our platform and by the users that will use our ad-free option of CyBeat. Our innovative app and the possible problems

The uniqueness of our platform which provides a personalized experience for each one of our users is one of our biggest advantages as well as the innovative way to find music according to the user’s music taste. The unique opportunity for users to find new artists and for upcoming artists to be found and start their musical journey is also something we take pride in concerning the launch of our platform. To state the obvious though, a platform launch is always going to be something difficult requiring a lot of changes and improvements. For instance, Cybeat’s way of proposing music genres and artists to the users could be sometimes unfit to the user’s taste or artists could as well not be interested in collaborating with us. So it is our responsibility to try and overcome every possible drawback.

How our startup will become known?

We will implement two ways of advertising our app/platform. Firstly, we will create a Youtube channel where we’ll be uploading video ideas such as stopping people in the street asking them what they listen to and each month the top 10 most listened upcoming artists found in Cybeat will be featured in a YouTube video. We’ll also create an Instagram page where content such as music covers by fans will be uploaded so we can have a better interaction with our followers. Moreover, a radio ad will be broadcasted in the most well-known radio stations so people will finally be able to get to know us and understand the way Cybeat works!
